What is the newsroom?

THE NEWSROOM

Here, VJM members, professional video journalists, and cartoonists select stories to be produced for the VJ Movement.

Suggest your truth (video or cartoon idea)

With a full-access membership, you can pitch story ideas. Click on "Pitch Your Story Idea" and follow the prompts. New pitches are queued in the newsroom until the start of the next election. They remain in the newsroom for 1 election cycle (1 week).

Vote upon these story ideas

Full and free members have three ballots to cast during every election. We hold new elections on Sunday at 10am, UTC.

Our professional contributors transform the winning story ideas into videos and cartoons

VJM will assign a video journalist (VJ) or cartoonist to produce the winning pitch. Soon after, the video or cartoon will be online.

HOW IDEAS ARE CHOSEN

arrow VJM members can vote on story ideas, or pitches, over 1 election cycle (1 week).

arrow Every election, the idea with the most votes is elected and assigned for production. In a tie situation, the most recently posted pitch is elected.

NEWSROOM TERMINOLOGY

Closed: The VJM member who suggests an idea may cancel, or close, it at any time during the voting period.

Editor's Pick: On occasion, our editors may select shelved stories for production. These pitches are labeled "Editor's Pick" in the Vote Results section.

Produced: An idea is labeled "Produced" after a VJ finishes production and the story or cartoon is published on the website. All produced stories remain on our site to be viewed at anytime.

Shelved: Story ideas that are not selected within the seven-day voting period are put aside, or shelved.

Voting Period: The voting period begins with the first election following submission of the story pitch. It continues through the next week (1 election cycle). A countdown clock shows how much time remains for the idea to be elected. Prior to the first election, pitches are visible, but cannot be voted upon.
