Journalists Targeted In Basque Conflict in Spain
Series:
Story by: Daniel Iriarte
Summary
Summary
Unique in the European Union: Journalists opposed to E.T.A. are being targeted and killed by this Basque separatist armed group. But the conflict also produced "collateral damages" in the other side of the informative front. In 2003, the newspaper in Basque language Egunkaria was closed under the accusation of being part of the E.T.A. social structure, and some of its chairmans were alleguedly tortured by the police forces.
Discussion
-
The difference here is that the editors of the newspaper have all been fairly trialed (and indeed released), while the victims of ETA are dead, maimed or sentenced to a lifetime in a wheelchair. Menos equidistancia, y más verdad.
